Here we go again...

...burning Christians.

It seems that Oxford's Center for the Science of the Mind will be burning volunteers (religious and secular folks) "to see if faith eases pain," as part of a series of experiments designed to better understand "the pain matrix." Burn-ees will be shown images of the Virgin Mary and crucifixes. The scientists hope to also "include people with survival techniques in the experiments, which may help the special forces easily identify people with high pain thresholds." I'm not even 100% sure what BBC is getting at in this sentence but it sounds a creepy to me--using scientifically simulated torture as a recruitment effort.

Maybe my job's not that bad afterall.
