Run out of toilet paper?

No problem, just use the Constitution; everyone else is.

Not to be outdone by our future Attorney General, Tom Ridge came out with his own doublespeak statement about why it's okay to beat the crap out of people and make them shit on themselves:
Mr Ridge told BBC News 24's HARDtalk: "By and large, as a matter of policy we need to state over and over again: we do not condone the use of torture to extract information from terrorists."

But he said it was "human nature" that torture might be employed in certain exceptional cases when time was very limited.
We don't condone it, but that won't stop us from doing it if we have to. It's that old bugaboo, human nature. Torture's kind of like sin...we don't advocate it, but it's inevitable. What's a government to do with that?

I'll hand it to Ridge for putting forth perhaps the most honest defense of Guantanamo:
Mr Ridge argued the HRW report reflected a "foreign perception" that the US was using different methods to those employed before the 11 September 2001 attacks.
What's to get excited about folks? We're no strangers to torture here in the US. We just didn't used to post the pics to the Internet before.

Deep sigh.
